26-Year-Old US Reporter Dies in a Tragic Moped Accident

After falling from a moped rented out of a popular scooter sharing service in New York City, a US reporter has died. CBS reporter Nina Kapur did not wear a helmet when she rides a Revel rental scooter driving by a 26-year-old man when he “swerves for an unexplained reason” in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on Saturday evening. Denise Moroney, an NYPD spokeswoman, said the 26-year-old reporter and the driver both fell onto the road, and while the driver sustained minor injuries, Ms Kapur was taken to a hospital where she was reported dead.

Ms Moroney said that the investigation is continuing. Neither carries helmets. Compared to the rentals of electric scooters that cropped up nationally, people can use a Revel moped simply by installing an app and accessing the nearest one for $1 (AUD$1.42). These are currently available in New York, Houston, Texas, Miami, Oakland, California and Washington D.C. Anyone over the age of 21 can drive one with a valid licence.

According to Revel ‘s website, revels only go up to 48 kilometres. It is per hour and driving on highways and major bridges with no permit.
