Chairman of the Coronavirus Task Force Alerts on Growing COVID Cases in US

Dr Anthony Fauci, chairman of the Coronavirus task force, gave a stern alert to lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, telling them he wouldn’t be surprised if the US saw new cases of coronavirus grow to 100,000 a day.

Fauci expressed consternation at people gathering in crowds and not wearing masks and insufficient attention to reopening guidelines.

The urgent warning came during a hearing about the US government’s new attempts to combat the pandemic when many states are struggling to control the virus in the face of rising outbreaks and state re-openings. On Friday, the US-registered more than 40,000 new cases of Covid-19, the biggest daily leap yet.

Chairman of the Coronavirus Task Force Stressed on Wearing Masks

Dr Robert Redfield, director of the Fauci and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stressed the importance of wearing masks.

In particular, Redfield has pointed out younger Americans to deliver a message that they’re not really exempt from the need to wear a mask.

Fauci was speaking about the importance of wearing masks across the board.

In response to a request from Vermont ‘s independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, Fauci suggested that he would support an initiative to increase the production of high-quality masks in the US and distribute them free of charge to the American public.

In cases, and over half of all states are seeing an increase, and Florida, Texas, and Arizona are getting especially hit. Texas has begun ramping up it’s reopening, and Florida beaches are closed for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Dr Stephen Hahn, US Food and Drug Administration commissioner, states the FDA is going to take action to help developers of coronavirus vaccines going through the approval process more quickly.

American Airlines announced last week that it expects to start selling each seat on flights. Also, something it hasn’t done since the pandemic struck this spring.

The airline said it has several layers of customer security. Also, it offers versatility to those who choose to change flights.

Lawmakers Debate on Unemployment Figures

In the past few weeks, lawmakers have debated another stimulus plan as unemployment figures. Also, remain alarming and economic misery resulting from the pandemic continues. Republicans remain split on the size and scope of the new stimulus bill. Also, the next step of economic relief is only weeks away though it has been debated for months. Yet now there is a strong consensus that something will be done — something that hasn’t always been the case.

In the last round of assistance to Capitol Hill, Congress increased unemployment benefits by $600 a week. It adds 13 weeks of pay to what states are offering. The extra money will expire without legislative intervention on July 31. But the 13-week extension will remain in effect until the end of the year. The second round of stimulus payments is on the negotiation table in Washington. But some of the 160 million Americans who got the money. The first time could be left out because the administration is looking for a more tailored strategy.

Republicans spent the last week of July zeroing in to reach consensus on the next round of stimulus legislation. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been staunch on that timeline for weeks and the administration is on board.
