Film Director Steve Bing Passes Away at the Age of 55

Steve Bing, a film director, philanthropist and Elizabeth Hurley’s ex, died at the age of 55 on Monday. Bing wrote a screenplay for Kangaroo Jack in 2003, produced films like Get Carter and Every Breath, and was a financier on the Tom Hanks-starring Polar Express and Beowulf in 2007.

According to Deadline, authorities are investigating the death of Bing after he was found at the bottom of a luxury apartment building in Century City, Calif .. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner told People at 1:10 p.m. that a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Although a final determination for the cause of death and identification of the deceased is pending in the reported suicide.

When he was 18, Bing inherited $600 million from his grandfather, a real estate developer, and dropped out of Stanford University in order to break into Hollywood. Variety estimated that Bing spent around $80 million in The Polar Express in 2004, and he also donated considerable amounts to the Democratic causes.
