Hong Kong Issues Emergency Warning, Officials Hold Meeting

Emergency warning issued in Hong Kong due to coronavirus outbreak. Authorities focus on reducing the risk of the virus spreading in the country.

“Today I declare the lifting of the response level to an emergency,” chief executive Carrie Lam told reporters.

Due to criticism on the administration’s response in some quarters, Carrie Lam organized an emergency meeting with all the health officials on Saturday morning.

Out of five, four of the patients who test positive arrived in a high-speed train which is a new terminal connecting to the mainland. Due to which, many arrivals have been halted. With 41 dead, this has become the epicentre of the outbreak.

Liam spoke in a press conference where he revealed about the cancellation of trains and frights from Wuhan until further notice.

With this outbreak, all mainland arrivals need to sign a declaration form. Also, there have been no restrictions on Chinese citie’s transport.

All schools and colleges will remain closed until 17 Feb. All the educational institutes have already on a Lunar New Year break. Along with this, all the lined up events like new year gala and marathon would be called off.

“We haven’t seen serious and widespread infections (in Hong Kong), but we are taking this seriously and we hope to be ahead of the epidemic,” Lam said.

“We must stand united so that we can prevent and control the disease,” she said, in a nod to the political unrest.
