Today in India, Xiaomi is set to launch the Redmi 8 – the successor to the Redmi 7. The Redmi 8 is expected to come with dual rear cameras, and the device will also be fitted with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as per leaked renders.
The new entry-level Redmi phone will sport a waterdropknotch on the front and has also recently been spotted on the Google Play app, revealing some of its key features ahead of its official launch. With today’s launch, Xiaomi is obviously picking up the pace with new smartphones introduced, of Redmi 8A, Redmi Note 8, and Redmi Note 8 Pro all replacing their predecessors introduced the same year.
The Redmi 8 launch event starts on Wednesday at 11 am IST. The event is going to be streamed live on YouTube. As for the Redmi 8 price in India, it costs about Rs. 7,999 can be expected to fall, close to the price of the Redmi 7 at the launch back in April.
Redmi 8 specifications (expected)
- MIUI 10.0.1.3
- Android 9 Pie
- four different colour options – Ash, Blue, Green, and Red
- plastic build
- powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor
- 6.21-inch HD+ (720×1520 pixels)
- TFT display
- 19:9 aspect ratio
- 320ppi pixel density
- 12-megapixel primary snapper
- 8-megapixel front camera
- 5,000mAh battery
- three memory configurations(2GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB, and 4GB + 64GB)
- microSD card(up to 512GB)
Nonetheless, the latter seems to be a mistake as the Redmi 7 comes with a processor of the Snapdragon 6xx series, so it makes little sense for Xiaomi to equip its successor with a less powerful processor of the Snapdragon 4xx series.
