Roger Federer And Bill Gates Win Match For Africa, Raises 2.5 million USD

World number No.1 Roger Federer paired up with Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates to beat the American world number eight Jack Sock and NBC Today show host Savannah Guthrie during a one-set double match in San Jose, California, United States on Monday.

Dubbed as “The Match for Africa 5 Silicon Valley”, the fifth charity tennis event for the Roger Federer Foundation. It has been raising money to benefit children’s education in six African countries and his homeland, Switzerland.

Announced at the end of a singles match between Federer and Sock, where Federer won 7-6(9), 6-4, this year’s event sold over 15,000 tickets, raising at least 2.5 million USD for the cause.

With their 6-3 win, this is the second time Federer and Gates have teamed up for a doubles match following last year in Seattle for “Match for Africa 4″.

Speaking of the win, the Swiss maestro said,”Well, we would like to reach a million kids by the end of the year and with this match tonight, I think I can confidently say, we’re going to do it.”
