The new album called ‘Rare’ by Selena Gomez launched on Jan. 10. On this occasion, Selena made an emotional confessional video about it for Spotify. She says it took her 2 years of many “drastic” changes in life to finally unite, which was a “nightmare.” We all know the 27-year-old sings about the devastating heartbreak with Justin Bieber, 25, in the song “Lose You To Love Me”. Also, spoke about how she caught up in the inspiring “Look At Her Now.” Selena describes how the album came together and why the title is so crucial to her.
“Honestly, this album was kind of a nightmare to deal with…but in the best way possible,” Selena Gomez reveals wearing of a cuddly colored sweater while sitting on a comfortable chair.
“Two years ago I thought I was ready. I’d collected all of these beautiful sessions and I don’t even remember half of them because it evolved each year. And then something would happen to me and it would be very drastic so that it would take me somewhere else,” Selena Gomez explains.
“Then all of the sudden I found this healing and I saw something bigger than what I thought that I was, and I think that added the whole end of the album.”
To Selena, a lot of “drastic” events have happened over the past two years. She broke up with 29-year-old The Weeknd to get back in Oct. 2017 with her ex Justin. This lasted until they split up again in the spring of 2018. Then, at the end of May of that year, he began dating former flame Haley Baldwin, 24, and they quickly got involved in the Bahamas on July 7, 2018. As if that wasn’t hard enough for Selena, on Sept. 13, 2018, the couple tied the knot at a New York court a few months later. Selena even suggests the turn of events with the lyrics in “Lose You To Love Me,” “You replaced us in two months. It was as easy as it was. I figured I deserved it.
As for the title, Selena says, “So I heard ‘rare’ a few years ago and I just thought that was me, if that makes sense. Obviously I’ve had a lot of self-esteem issues in the past. I still struggle with confidence…it’s going to be something I’ll always be working on. And so ‘rare’ made me feel incredible and I ended up cutting the record before all the other stuff came together. And I never let go of that. That name was so important to me. The moment I hear it I say‘That’s the name of my album,’” and explain that she wish people to know that they value, rare and important.”
Selena became so emotional about her fans that when she discussed them, she broke down in tears. “I love love love my fans very much and I think it’s not that I love them because they love me. I love them because it’s really been about the journey. And I feel like I grew up with a lot of people. And the most heartbreaking conversations are where they’re just telling me that they’re suffering. I never understood it. When people would say ‘it saved my life,’ I just didn’t understand that,” she cries.
“And I always wish I could just grab every single one of them in their face. Just tell them how loved they are, how important they are. How they’re capable of absolutely anything. And if I did all of this and I’m just a girl from Texas and it’s still happening for me…you can do anything,” she continues, her voice shaking with emotion.
“And I’ve had a lot of moments when people weren’t having it. And they just build you up to just break you down. But I would just say that…I would say that you’re beautiful or exactly where you’re to be, whatever that looks like. Even if it’s so hard, you’re worth it. And you always have to choose yourself,” she concludes her confessional.
