US President Calls Qasem Soleimani ‘Terrorist’

On Monday, US President Donald Trump again defended the killing of Iranian top leader Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike by calling him it ”no. 1 terrorist … in the world”. This statement came soon as Tehran experienced a consecutive third day of demonstrations in the world denouncing the Islamic regime in that region.

“We killed Soleimani (Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani), number one terrorist in the world by every account. That person killed a lot of Americans and lot of people, we killed him. When the Democrats try and defend him, it”s a disgrace to our country,” the President said at a short press briefing.

Protestors in Iran took to the streets for the third day after officials confirmed last week’s “accidental” shooting down a Ukrainian passenger aircraft that led to severe tension between the U.S. and Iran.

Videos from demonstration sites showed students chanting slogans like “Clerics get lost!” outside universities in Isfahan City and Tehran, where riot police were deployed on the streets, said Al Jazeera. Even as police denied opening fire, bullets rented the air.

Trump, who raised the stakes last week by ordering the assassination of the most powerful military chief of Iran in a drone strike, tweeted to the leaders of Iran: “Don’t harm your demonstrators.”

Iranian Public Fume in Anger

Tehran admitted last Wednesday’s shooting down the Ukrainian jetliner by mistake, killing all 176 on board, hours after it shot at U.S. targets in Iraq to retaliate for General Qassem Soleimani’s January 3 killing in Baghdad.

Iranian public anger, rumbling for days as Tehran. They repeatedly denied it was to blame for the plane crash. It exploded in protest on Saturday when the military admitted its position. At locations in Tehran and Isfahan, a major city south of the capital, thousands of demonstrators graph on camera.

“They killed our elites and replaced them with clerics,” they chanted outside a Tehran university. It is referring to Iranian students returning to studies in Canada who were on the plane.

The move also comes at a time when the White House. Trump’s legal team primes for the next step of the proceedings. This is almost a month of waiting on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to deliver the impeachment papers.
