US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will sit on a panel to help Joe Biden build climate policy, said an assistant to the congresswoman, adding a powerful liberal voice who could assist the efforts of the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate to gain full support from his party.
Ocasio-Cortez, who backed liberal fellow U.S. The Democratic nomination bid by Senator Bernie Sanders will advise on climate policy as one of Sanders’ members on a council set up by Biden in cooperation with his one-time opponent, an Ocasio-Cortez representative said Tuesday by e-mail.
A Biden spokesperson did not respond immediately to a request for comment outside regular working hours. Biden said earlier in an interview with 8 News Now in Las Vegas on Tuesday that Ocasio-Cortez would assume a position on one of his policy committees but did not provide information. Ocasio-Cortez, considered a rising Democratic star, is known for promoting a “Climate New Deal” program that would seek a quicker transition away from fossil fuels with far more government involvement than policies supported by Biden as a candidate for nomination by his party.
Biden campaigned with his own party’s left flank in an attempt to win support. It is for his November 3 election against President Donald Trump. This is who refuses to embrace attempts to take action on climate change. Also, concentrated on growing federal and private land oil, gas and coal production. Sanders dropped out of the nominating Democratic Presidential contest. It is in April making Biden the presumptive candidate.
Biden and Sanders then committed to working together just to build six policy working groups. It is on topics including economics, education, criminal justice, immigration and climate change. Ocasio-Cortez said she fully plans to support Biden’s candidacy. But she needed to see him clarify his positions on topics like climate change.
